Mass Intentions Received
Mass Intentions received: Sharon Kenny LD, Christopher O'Sullivan A
Father Yovan Saverimutto, a Benedictine Priest is here for a few weeks as part of his preparation for studies next year.
Ash Wednesday, a day of Fasting and Abstinence is this Wednesday (14th Feb); Masses will be at 7am and at 9.15pm with St Joseph's School.
There is a mass at St Edwards Rusholme at 9.30 am, at The Little Sisters at 11 and at the Holy Name at 6pm
The law of abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays and on Ash Wednesday.
The law of fasting requires a Catholic aged between 18 and 60 to reduce the amount of food eaten from normal. The Church defines this as one meal a day, and two smaller meals . Such fasting is obligatory on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Those who are excused from fast or abstinence besides those outside the age limits, are those of unsound mind, the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing women according to need for meat or nourishment, manual labourers according to need, guests at a meal who cannot excuse themselves without giving great offence.
Thank you and Thank God
You gave ?608.99p to the mission appeal last Sunday.
Over the last few weeks there have been some very generous, anonymous, donations to the parish. On behalf of you all I thank the donors and assure them of our prayers.
It is difficult to overstate how helpful these donations are and indeed one can see the hand of providence in them; for example a recent donation of ?2000 pounds was almost exactly the amount of the Church gas and electricity bill for the last three months. Many thanks.
