"In failing to confess, Lord, I would only hide You from myself, not myself from You."
The sacrament of reconciliation is above all an act of God's love, a personal moment lived in the relationship of love with God. Like the Church, each of her members, is always in need of purification and, following the path of penance and renewal, seeks with a contrite heart to grow in love of Christ. God acts through his Church, by way of the bishop and his priests who forgive sins saying 'I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit', and who pray for, do penance for, and reconcile the sinner to the Church.

3.30pm - 4pm
Begin by making the Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Bless me Father, for I have sinned. It is (say how long) since my last confession. These are my sins... (tell the priest the sins you are sorry for). For these and for all my sins I am sorry.
Listen to the Penance the Priest gives you.
When the priest asks, say the Act of Contrition.
Act of Contrition
O my God, because you are so good, I am sorry that I have sinned against you and by the help of your grace I will not sin again. Amen.
Listen while the priest says the prayer of forgiveness (absolution).
Remember to say your penance kneeling down in Church.
